Norfolk Portsmouth Newport News, VA, November 6, 2026 — Virginia is set to launch a new mobile application designed to streamline the process of sharing information about missing persons across the Commonwealth. The initiative aims to create a single, centralized platform where residents can receive alerts and report relevant information.

The forthcoming application will consolidate missing person notifications that may currently be disseminated through various channels. By bringing these alerts into one easily accessible mobile interface, state officials hope to enhance public awareness and facilitate quicker community involvement in locating individuals who are missing.

Residents who download and utilize the app will be able to receive timely notifications regarding missing persons in their area or across the state. Furthermore, the application is being designed to allow users to submit tips or relevant information directly through the platform. This feature is intended to provide a more direct and efficient way for the public to contribute to ongoing searches.

Details regarding the specific timeline for the app’s development and release were not provided in the initial summary. Information about the functionalities beyond receiving alerts and submitting tips, such as the types of alerts that will be included or any potential integration with law enforcement databases, also remains to be detailed. The contractor responsible for developing the application was not specified.

The development of this centralized app signifies an effort to leverage mobile technology to improve public safety communication and community engagement in critical situations. Further announcements are expected as the project progresses.
