US multisite study shows MediPrint’s digitally printed HA lens significantly improves comfort for patients who had stopped wearing contact lenses.
SAN DIEGO, CA, UNITED STATES, September 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — MediPrint Ophthalmics Inc. today announced results from its US multisite clinical study, demonstrating a 43% improvement in Contact Lens Dry Eye Questionnaire (CLDEQ) score among contact lens dropouts. The study of 16 patients evaluated the daily disposable MediPrint HA lens, which incorporates a digitally printed, sustained release hyaluronic acid (HA) reservoir on the lens surface.
The result adds to a growing body of clinical evidence for MediPrint’s platform, which has now demonstrated positive outcomes for contact lens comfort and glaucoma indications across four separate studies, reinforcing the company’s position as a leader in sustained ocular drug delivery through digital lens printing.
Building on this result, MediPrint plans to advance a Weekly Disposable HA lens designed to extend comfort, convenience and cost efficiency for wearers, a direction industry veterans see as the next major shift in the category.
“A weekly MediPrint HA Lens is the next big thing for contact lens industries, much like we saw with the development of the hard contact lens, soft contact lens, gas permeable lens and daily disposable lens,” said Tom Bender, former CEO and Chairman of Cooper Companies.
MediPrint’s leadership frames the opportunity even more broadly: “These are not just products – this is a platform and category shift where therapy is in the eye, making it a wearable medicine,” said Praful Doshi, Founder and CEO of MediPrint Ophthalmics.
Addressing Contact Lens Dropout
Contact lens dropout remains one of the most persistent and costly challenges in eyecare, with more than 18-22% of wearers discontinuing contact lens use every year. Dryness and discomfort remain the leading causes of dropout. The MediPrint HA lens targets this unmet need with continuous hydration and improved lubrication.
Advancing Sustained Delivery Platform for Ocular Drugs with HA
MediPrint has previously completed three Phase II Glaucoma trials, demonstrating a 30% reduction in IOP using its preservative-free weekly disposable lens with sustained delivery of bimatoprost and HA. With four successful clinical studies, MediPrint plans to first seek FDA approval for its Daily and Weekly Disposable HA lens in 2027 and 2028 respectively, followed by approvals for its therapeutic pipeline of glaucoma and dry eye treatment.
Partnering for Global Commercialization
With four successful clinical studies complete and a broad patent estate in place, MediPrint is actively pursuing strategic or equity partnerships to advance its wearable medicine platform. By combining the familiarity and convenience of contact lenses with sustained, non-invasive drug delivery, MediPrint has the potential to expand the contact lens application from a vision-correction device into a therapeutic platform.
IP Strength and Manufacturing Readiness
MediPrint Ophthalmics’ technology is protected by a comprehensive global patent portfolio of 29 issued patents. The company operates a GMP compliant, manufacturing ready facility in San Diego, CA, providing a foundation for clinical development, manufacturing scale-up and commercialization.
