Smith Micro Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMSI), a leading provider of mobile software solutions that simplifies and enhances the mobile connected lifestyle experience, announces today that Consumer Cellular launched a new connected-care solution designed specifically for older adults and the families that support them, custom-built on Smith Micro’s SafePath OS™ for Senior Phone platform and delivered through the wireless provider’s SpeakEasy brand.
The launch marks a significant milestone for Smith Micro and the continued expansion of its SafePath® platform. SafePath OS for Senior Phone solution helps address a common challenge for family members and caregivers who want to support loved ones without being intrusive. Through an accompanying caregiver app, available on Apple App Store and Google Play Store, and built-in safety features, family members can stay informed, maintain visibility into their loved one’s well-being, and have greater confidence knowing they can provide assistance when needed. Together, the solution helps strengthen connections between seniors and their caregivers while promoting independence and safety.
As a recognized leader in wireless service for adults age 50+, Consumer Cellular is the first provider to bring SafePath OS for Senior Phone to market through its SpeakEasy portfolio. The solution will be available on both SpeakEasy Smart phone and SpeakEasy Flip devices and delivered through the SpeakEasy Connect Care+ plan, which includes access to the SpeakEasy Care+ app for family members and caregivers, which is available on both Android and iOS devices. Connect Care+ is available via the company’s website, retail stores, and call center, making it easy for customers and their families to learn about, purchase, and activate the service.
“The need for new technology designed specifically for the senior market has never been stronger, as the market continues to grow,” said Tim Huffmyer, Chief Executive Officer of Smith Micro. “Seniors want to stay connected and maintain their independence, while family members and caregivers want confidence that their loved ones have access to the tools and support they need. SafePath OS for Senior Phone brings those needs together in a single experience, that combines an intuitive smartphone interface with features that help families stay connected, provide assistance, and support the unique needs of the senior market. This launch represents an important milestone for Smith Micro, and we believe it demonstrates a significant opportunity for operators looking to better serve the growing senior market.”
SafePath OS for Senior Phone is designed to reduce smartphone complexity, while providing caregivers, family members, and friends tools that help them stay connected, offer assistance, and support with confidence. Key capabilities include:
- Easy-to-Use Interface: Large font, simplified navigation, and voice assisted support
- Simple Onboarding: Reduces setup complexity so users can get started quickly
- Real-Time Location & Safety Areas: Location sharing with alerts when entering or exiting safe zones
- Check-In & Family SOS Alerts: One tap check-in and emergency alerts to family members and caregivers
- Caregiver App: Enables caregivers to monitor activity, receive alerts, and stay connected without compromising privacy or independence.
“When we created SpeakEasy, the goal was to make products that work better for people over 75 rather than asking them to adapt to technology that wasn’t designed with them in mind,” said Ed Evans, Chairman and CEO of Consumer Cellular. “SpeakEasy Connect Care+ extends that philosophy into connected care, combining the phone an older adult already carries with tools that make it easier for the people they trust to stay informed and be there when they’re needed.”
Together, Consumer Cellular and Smith Micro are addressing the evolving needs of seniors and caregivers by pairing an intuitive smartphone experience with tools that help families stay informed and engaged. As more families look for ways to support aging loved ones without sacrificing independence, SafePath OS for Senior Phone provides a purpose-built experience designed specifically for their needs.
