Thrifting Halloween Costumes Draws Attention as a Cost-Saving Option in Hampton Roads

Norfolk Portsmouth Newport News, VA, October 15, 2026 —

Thrifting affordable Halloween costumes is drawing attention in the Norfolk-Portsmouth-Newport News area as a way to spend less than on store-bought outfits. The option is especially relevant for families buying multiple costumes, according to the trend summary.

The summary describes the topic as a cost-saving alternative, but provides no figures comparing thrifted and store-bought costumes. It also does not identify specific thrift stores, shoppers, costume prices or sales trends. The size and duration of the trend are not specified.

For households purchasing more than one costume, the overall expense of store-bought options is part of the discussion. Thrifting is being considered in that context as an alternative. The available information does not say how many families are choosing this approach, what types of costumes they are seeking or whether particular items are available at local shops.

No individual shoppers or businesses are named, and no direct comments are included. The trend summary also does not provide details about store hours, inventory, discounts or other local shopping arrangements. As a result, the topic can be described as interest in thrifted costumes as a potentially more affordable choice, but the information available does not establish how widely the approach is being used or how much families might save.

The reported focus is on the cost of assembling Halloween costumes, particularly when several are needed. Beyond that, no additional information was provided about the reasons behind the trend, its timing or its effects on local retailers.
